Akela Jaffi is an artist of many mediums. She grew up in Portland and has lived in practically every corner of the city. As the city changes, she’s focusing her attention on carving out space for the black community so that it may grow, thrive and continue to keep itself watered. A graduate of Jefferson High school, Akela has been dancing for 12 years and has created her name in this city through performing with the collective House of Aquarius. Dance has been her method of expression and healing, and her greatest contribution to the Portland art world. She is grateful for her role in building community, and the dedication of others seeking equality and change.
