Dan Attoe (American, b. 1975) creates a world of teenage nihilism, fantasy, and alienated rural youth. Simultaneously sincere and ironic, Attoe’s work questions what is real and what is imagined. Operating between indeterminate boundaries between fiction and dreams, Attoe illuminates his work with text. Juxtaposing the luminous glare of neon with phrases and drawings, these works elevate doodles and notes to humorous, poignant, and sometimes perverse effect.
