Born in Cyprus, Hassabi moved to the US in 1990 and received a BFA in Performance and Choreography from the California Institute of the Arts. Since moving to New York City in 1994, she has created seven evening-length works and seven short-form pieces. Hassabi has been presented in the US at venues such as PS122 (New York), The Kitchen (New York), Dance Theater Workshop (New York), and Ballroom Marfa (Texas). Internationally, she has been featured at festivals in Austria, Spain, Russia, France, Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, and Portugal. She is a recipient of the Foundation for Contemporary Arts’ 2009 Grants to Artists Award.
