What is Middle Eastern American theatre and who are the artists at the forefront of this movement? Founded in 1996 in San Francisco, Golden Thread Productions is the first American theatre company devoted to plays from or about the Middle East. Silk Road Rising in Chicago defines its mission more broadly to include peoples of the historic Silk Road. The work of these visionary companies is fueled by the excellence of a vibrant and growing number of Muslim and Middle Eastern American playwrights, directors and actors. What are some of the challenges faced by these artists? Who is the audience for this work? What does the future hold for these companies? Join us and find out.
