Community. War. Justice. Democracy. With their unmistakable brand of transgressive, Internet-age aesthetics, Big Art Group broaches these broad civic themes in an outdoor spectacle of live theater and large-scale video projection. Through a “chorus” of video interviews conducted with local residents, The People—Portland loosely retells the Greek tragic cycle of The Oresteia. Together, these recorded perspectives form a census of Portland at this moment, while investigating the larger state of justice and society and the relationship of the networked public to mediated information.

Co-produced by Theatre Der Welt (Germany), Inteatro Festival (Italy), Szene Salzburg (Austria), Abrons Art Center (NYC), and Yerba Buena Center For The Arts (San Francisco). Supported in part by MAP Fund, New York State Council For the Arts, with residency support from Headlands Center For The Arts and MacDowell Colony. Studio space generously provided by Northwest Film Center.
