Moderated by musician, artist, and music advocate Rebecca Gates, this panel will focus on the local community, economy, and ecology of the Portland music scene. Learn about new initiatives and strategies that artists from a variety of genres are using to enhance local music, support one another, build community, and make change (both social and monetary). Working artists including Cool Nutz, Laura Gibson, Holcome Waller, and John Savage reflect on careers, making a living, and their relationships to digital and recession-era arts economy.
This conversation takes place alongside of the PICA Symposium: Bodies, Identities & Alternative Economies, a weekend of performances, discussions, screenings, and lectures on the ideas and politics behind Hennessy’s in-progress TBA:12 performance Turbulence (a dance about the economy). The Symposium takes place June 21–24, 2012.
