Come for the magic, stay for the ham sandwiches! Nature Theater of Oklahoma presents a short four-hour version of their legendary eleven-hour melodramatic spectacle, No Dice. A tale of the everyday blown to epic proportions, No Dice takes over one hundred hours of the company’s recorded telephone conversations and filters them through the conventions of amateur dinner theatre to arrive at a uniquely mind-altering experience. In the fight of their artistic lives, on the edge of total failure, the performers engage in mighty battle to get to the heart of the “story” and perform the ultimate heroic task of transforming the coarse stuff of their own lives into art. Will they pull it off?

Nature Theater of Oklahoma is a New York-based performance group under the direction of Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper. The ensemble strives to create an unsettling live situation that demands total presence from everyone in the room. Using readymade materials, found space, overheard speech, and observed gesture, and through extreme formal manipulation and superhuman effort, they seek to effect a shift in the perception of everyday reality that extends beyond the site of performance and into the world in which we live.

No Dice was originally commissioned in SOHO Rep’s Phase II Program and will receive its New York Premiere in SOHO Rep’s 2007/2008 Season. No Dice was created in residence at Downtown Art.
