Parenthetical Girls is a musical group operating within the pop rock idiom. Entanglements, their recently completed full-length album, is a dense, winkingly ambitious orchestral song cycle. Entanglements is an eleven-song, linear meditation on ascendancy, adolescent sexuality, quantum mechanics, consent, and other moral ambiguities—all set to an elaborately orchestrated olio of modern classical and timeworn, traditional American pop forms. Recorded throughout the Northwest over the course of three months, the Parenthetical Girls complex patchwork orchestra—comprised of over twenty classically trained musicians—was realized only by way of studio ingenuity and dumb luck. With the help of TBA:08, Parenthetical Girls will premiere Entanglements in its entirety, complete with live chamber orchestra.
