Formerly known as Adelaide, Small Sails is a music and film collective based in Portland. Their music is a gorgeous mix of electronic post-rock anthems, with visuals performed live using original 16-mm film loops on dual projectors. A field of dandelions plowed over, silhouettes of overlapping faces, a flowing river of color, sing-song vocals, and warm spacey melodies, that’s what Small Sails looks and sounds like. Chanting, humming vocals hint at tangibility, while remaining half-submerged; rhythms are a baby-bouncing jumble of eclectic percussion and twittering electronics; and soaring over the top, achingly gorgeous melodies stripped down to the still-gleaming bone.
