TBA:22 ACCESS
 

PICA is committed to accessibility as a value, ethic, and opportunity for learning, growth, and change. As we strive to create greater access to our programs and events, including the TBA Festival, we welcome feedback and dialogue from audiences and artists about their experiences and suggestions for improvement. Some ways in which we are thinking about and approaching access for the TBA Festival include: 

  • Providing more comprehensive accessibility notes in the TBA catalog and on our website that go beyond ADA compliance, including more information about physical venues, sensory elements in performances, and communication access options (e.g., ASL interpretation, captions, transcription, audio description).

  • Improving processes for requesting and meeting access needs 

  • Designing for spaces and experiences that feel welcoming and inclusive 

  • Dedicating more staff time and resources to accessibility planning and implementation

  • Approaching accessibility holistically, intersectionally, and as an opportunity to do better 

 

Venue Accessibility

Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) 

PICA is located at 15 NE Hancock St, Portland, OR, 97212. PICA’s main warehouse space is on the ground floor and accessible to those with mobility aids. ADA-accessible, gender-neutral restrooms and water coolers are located inside PICA. PICA’s back lot is accessible for those with mobility aids but has a slight slope. PICA does not have a parking lot. Street parking is available on the south, west, and north sides of the building. Priority seating at performances is available for those with access needs. If possible, contact the TBA Box Office to arrange this in advance. Service animals, as defined by the ADA, are welcome.


BodyVox Dance Center

BodyVox Dance Center is located at 1202 NW 17th Ave, Portland, OR, 97209. Street parking is available. The building has an accessible entrance and is ADA compliant. Both lobby restrooms are gender neutral. BodyVox Dance Center does not use fragrances or fragrant products.


Reed College Cooley Gallery

Reed College’s Cooley Gallery is located inside the Eric V. Hauser Memorial Library located at 3203 SE Woodstock Blvd, Portland, OR, 97202. The closest parking is located east of the Library in Reed College’s East Parking Lot, which is accessible via SE Woodstock Blvd. The gallery has an accessible entrance with a ramp located to the right upon entering the library. A dropoff zone is located directly west of the library. 


Hollywood Theatre

The Hollywood Theatre is located at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR, 97212. Street parking is available. Theatre patrons may also park in the Broadway Medical Clinic lot (4212 NE Broadway) after 6pm on weekdays and after 2pm on weekends. The event will be held in the theatre’s main auditorium, which is accessible to mobility devices. There is also a space reserved in the auditorium for wheelchair-using patrons. Assistive listening devices are available upon request. As a historical building, the Hollywood Theatre is limited in its ability to meet ADA requirements. Theatre bathrooms are currently not ADA accessible, but patrons are welcome to use the ADA-compliant restrooms located in Sizzle Pie, which is in the same building as the theatre. Patrons are welcome to use the restroom that they are most comfortable with.


Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA)

The Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is located at 511 NW Broadway, Portland, OR, 97209. Metered street parking is available. The building has an accessible entrance with elevators that operate between floors. There are gender neutral bathrooms located on the north end of the 1st floor, west end of the Mezzanine, north end of the 2nd floor, west end of the 4th floor, and west end of the 6th floor. For a map of bathroom locations, please see the PNCA campus map and look for a toilet symbol. The campus is fragrance-free. Service animals, as defined by the ADA, are welcome.


Winningstad Theatre

The Winningstad Theatre is located at 1111 SW Broadway, Portland, OR, 97205. Metered street parking is available. The Winningstad Theatre has an accessible entrance with elevators that operate between floors. Curbside dropoff zones are located in front to allow patrons easy access to the theater.

 

Where to find access information for specific TBA:22 events

Each event web page features an access section dedicated to delivering information that may affect a viewer’s experience. For example, some shows feature strobe lights or have English subtitles for non-English words spoken aloud during a performance. These descriptions are non-comprehensive and subject to change due to the evolving nature of artistic performance. 

 

How to request an access service for TBA:22

To submit a request for access services such as ASL interpretation, audio description, or transcription, please contact the Box Office at boxoffice@pica.org or 503-224-PICA (7422).

To ensure the service will be provided at the correct date and time, please include the date and time in addition to the name of the event you plan to attend. 

If possible, please submit your request two weeks before the event occurs. This will give us time to coordinate services and better serve you. Due to limited resources, we cannot ensure that the request will be fulfilled. However, we will try to honor each one we receive.
