Let’s gather together –safely– and in celebration of contemporary art. Bloom is an open-air, sliding scale, community-oriented fundraising event for Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA).

This event, which can be accessed via drive-in or streamed live from the comfort of your home, is the anti-gala we’ve all been waiting for. With themes of collective connection and transformation, ALL are invited to experience this come-as-you-are gathering.

Guests can expect virtual musical performances from Blossom, Moorea Masa, and Frankie Simone to be projected large-scale and outdoors thanks to Nanda D'Agostino and Sarah Turner of Mobile Projection Unit. Plus, drive-in-only performances by Friends of Noise artists MARZZ and Beep Beep, along with a virtual end-of-the-night performance by Shannon Funchess aka LIGHT ASYLUM! In addition to the performances, there will be raffle tickets, a virtual auction, and *surprise treats! Hosted by the incredible Gia Goodrich, Bloom provides us all with a much-needed chance to get out, or hang in, together as a community! Click here to learn more.

How it works:

Safety is our number one priority. With that in mind, we are offering 100 physically-distant drive-in spots for those who are looking to get out of the house and vibe in collective energy. These outdoor party-plots are first-come-first-served at a sliding scale of $20-$200. You can learn more about our on-site safety policies on our FAQ page. Prefer to stay indoors? No problem! You can still access the performances and on-screen action from our fundraising website. Plus, Bloom streamers can also enjoy a pre-show playlist courtesy of VNPRT.

Pack a picnic! Feel free to bring and enjoy your own snacks and beverages in the safety of your vehicle. Although alcohol is not permitted, tasty treats are highly encouraged!

Where does my money go?

When you donate to PICA, either through our website or online auction, your funds directly impact this organization. That means we are able to stay open, pay our artists, continue online and in-person programming, and can have community-oriented events that support our local economy. We truly appreciate your support at any level and will make the most of your contributions, giving care with the dollars given.

If you can give big, please do. If you can’t give at all, this event is still for you. You will always have a seat at our table. Sliding-scale tickets to attend the in-person drive-in are on sale now. With limited tickets available for the drive-in experience, if you are able, please leave the lower-priced tickets for those who need them. If you are unsure what level feels right for you on a sliding scale, this graphic by Alexis J. Cunningfolk is a great way to check. Ready to celebrate? COVID-19

We'll be following the guidelines outlined by Oregon Health Authority for safely operating drive-in events at this time, including asking the following of our guests:

Anyone who is experiencing or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 or who has been in contact with others who are, are asked to stay home to avoid the risk of exposing others.

All staff and guests over the age of two years old are required to wear a mask that meets current CDC guidelines at all times when outside a vehicle or interacting with staff.

We ask that all guests remain in their cars during the drive-in and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet apart when outside of the vehicle or in public spaces e.g. visiting bathrooms. Sorry, no tailgating!

Consumption of food and beverages will only be permitted inside vehicles.

All guests will be asked to take their own trash with them when they leave.
