Remembering to Remember: Performance Night One
— Lucy Liyou, Nivhek

Description

The first night of live shows for Remembering to RememberExperiments in Sound begins with a performance by San Francisco-based Lucy Liyou (San Francisco, CA), acclaimed for their innovative use of text-to-speech vocals in experimental music and piano.

Immediately following, Astoria, Oregon-based Nivhek (Grouper’s Liz Harris) will perform a live version of the new project ENGINE, which uses train and car engine noise from Portland drag races, local railway tracks, and synth and other electronics. A multichannel installation of ENGINE was commissioned by PICA for the Remembering to Remember exhibition, on view at PICA through March 19th. A single ticket grants entry to both performances.

Access Notes

The exhibition and performances in Remembering to Remember: Experiments in Sound contain sounds at a range of volumes and frequencies, some of which might be uncomfortable or unfamiliar. The sounds in the multichannel installation and live performances are experienced throughout the space, while film and video works use individual headphones. Free earplugs will be available at the entrance to the gallery and for live shows. You may exit at any time and re-enter at no cost.

To request or inquire about access needs for this performance, please email madison@pica.org. For ASL interpretation, audio description, or other forms of access that require advance scheduling of services, please submit a request at least two (2) weeks before the performance date so that we can do our best to meet your needs.

COVID-19

Masks are currently required in the gallery and for all live performances and workshops at PICA.
